Still on course for retirement?

The start of 2022 was difficult to navigate, as investors had to sail through strong headwinds of increased geopolitical uncertainty and rising inflationary pressures. These challenging seas were particularly difficult for members closer to retirement, as bond assets (which are typically held by at-retirement strategies) fell more than equities during the quarter.

Our Q1 2022 DC Default Review paper looks at how some of the largest DC providers performed during these stormy waters at the start of the year, for both members in the early stages of their savings journey as well as those approaching retirement.

In this paper we explore the questions at the forefront of DC members’ minds:

• How have the headwinds of 2022 impacted members in the growth and at-retirement phases?
• Which providers breezed through choppy waters and who had a more turbulent journey?
• Should members be making any immediate changes to their DC investments in light of the stormy seas?
